Curriculum Overview
Our Curriculum at Castlemorton C.E. Primary School
Our Vision
At Castlemorton C.E. Primary School, our vision as a church and community school is to express the love of God both in words and action, pursuing compassion, respect for others, courage, perseverance, and justice. We believe that this vision guides us in nurturing every pupil, helping them achieve their full potential as students and citizens, and inspiring them to make a positive difference in the world.
Our curriculum is rooted in this vision, designed to foster a love of learning and to support the development of confident, resilient, and compassionate individuals who understand their responsibility to others and their community.
Curriculum Goals
Aligned with our vision, our curriculum aims to:
• Foster a lifelong passion for learning by providing a rich and varied learning experience.
• Encourage pupils to think critically, solve problems creatively, and explore new ideas with courage and perseverance.
• Develop a positive self-image, encouraging pride in each child’s unique abilities and their ability to make a difference in the world.
• Promote compassion, respect, and empathy, instilling an appreciation for the diversity of experiences and perspectives.
• Prepare pupils with the essential knowledge, skills, and values they need to succeed in the modern world as responsible and thoughtful citizens.
Curriculum Overview
Our curriculum covers a comprehensive range of subjects, following the National Curriculum for England. We emphasise excellence in our core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Religious Education while also nurturing curiosity and skills in History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, Music, Physical Education and Computing. Additionally, we teach Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education (PSHE), including age-appropriate Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), supporting our pupils’ social and emotional development.
Each subject is thoughtfully planned to build on previous learning, allowing pupils to grow in knowledge and skills as they move through the school. We prioritise hands-on, engaging learning experiences to deepen understanding and inspire curiosity.
Inclusivity and Equality in Our Curriculum
Our vision of compassion, respect, and justice means that we are committed to an inclusive and equitable curriculum. We value the unique needs, abilities, and backgrounds of every child, ensuring that our curriculum is accessible, engaging, and inclusive for all.
Equality Act 2010 Compliance
In line with the Equality Act 2010, we actively promote equality and combat discrimination across our school. Our curriculum:
• Celebrates diversity and represents a range of cultures, histories, and perspectives to ensure all children feel positively represented.
• Reflects our commitment to justice, respect, and compassion by fostering an inclusive environment where every child is valued.
• Is reviewed regularly to ensure content is fair, balanced, and upholds the values of equality and inclusivity.
Our staff receive ongoing training to ensure they are equipped to challenge discrimination, promote inclusivity, and ensure equal learning opportunities for all pupils.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
We are dedicated to ensuring that children with special educational needs and disabilities are fully included and supported in every aspect of school life. In line with the SEND Code of Practice 2014, we:
• Provide tailored support and adapt teaching strategies, resources, and activities to meet each child’s specific needs.
• Develop individual learning plans in partnership with parents, carers, and relevant professionals to ensure the best outcomes for children with SEND.
• Make reasonable adjustments across the curriculum and school environment, ensuring accessibility for all.
• Provide training and resources to support our staff in delivering high-quality education and support for children with SEND.
Our SEND Coordinator (SENCO) works closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies to identify, assess, and support each child’s unique needs, ensuring that every pupil feels valued and has the opportunity to thrive.
Assessing and Celebrating Progress
Our approach to assessment is an integral part of our curriculum, helping us understand each child’s progress and adjust support to meet their needs. We use both formative and summative assessments to evaluate each child’s development, allowing us to celebrate their achievements, address challenges, and support ongoing growth. In line with our vision, we recognise and celebrate each child’s effort, resilience, and progress.
