Mental Health And Wellbeing
Welcome to Castlemorton C.E. Primary School’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Page
At Castlemorton C.E. Primary School, we believe that the mental health and wellbeing of every child and adult in our community is essential to a happy, fulfilling life and a positive learning environment. Our goal is to create a school where all pupils, staff, and families feel valued, supported, and connected. Here, you’ll find information about our mental health and wellbeing approach, the resources we offer, and how we work together to promote a positive, inclusive culture for everyone.
Our Approach to Wellbeing
We recognise that good mental health is the foundation for effective learning and personal development. By fostering a nurturing and respectful environment, we aim to help children develop the skills to understand and manage their emotions, build resilience, and form healthy relationships. This is achieved through:
• Positive School Culture: We integrate wellbeing into all areas of school life, from our daily routines and assemblies to our Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) curriculum. We aim to create a place where children feel safe, valued, and empowered to be themselves.
• Whole-School Training and Awareness: Our staff receive regular training to understand and support mental health needs within the school. This helps them to identify early signs of mental health issues and provide appropriate support.
• Individual Support and Early Intervention: If a child is experiencing mental health challenges, we have resources and support in place. Early intervention strategies and individualised support plans help us provide the right level of care for each child.
Mental Health Support for Children
We offer a variety of resources to help children understand and manage their emotions:
• Mindfulness and Relaxation Practices: These activities are incorporated into the school day to help children develop self-calming techniques and focus.
• Buddy Systems and Peer Support: We encourage positive peer relationships through buddy systems and mentoring, helping children to build a supportive community.
• One-on-One and Group Support: For children who need extra assistance, we offer small group activities and one-on-one support sessions tailored to individual needs.
Supporting Staff Wellbeing
We understand that a supportive environment for our staff is crucial to creating a caring and effective learning space for our pupils. Our wellbeing initiatives for staff include access to resources and regular wellbeing check-ins. A culture of openness ensures that staff feel supported to discuss their mental health and access help if needed.
Supporting Families and Carers
We value a strong partnership with families and carers, as we know that a child’s wellbeing is best supported when we work together. We welcome conversations with parents and carers who have concerns about their child’s mental health and wellbeing. Additionally, we offer resources and information sessions to help families support their children’s emotional growth at home.
If you’re a parent or carer with questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. Our designated Mental Health Lead - Amanda Smithson, is available to discuss any concerns you may have and can guide you toward helpful resources and support.
When Extra Help is Needed
While we offer a range of mental health resources within the school, we understand that some children may need additional help. In these cases, we work closely with local mental health services, such as Early Help and CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), to ensure each child receives the right level of care. Referrals are made with sensitivity, and families are supported throughout the process.
